Utah's Foster Care Lawsuit Ends
This is an exciting time for Child and Family Services. Due to the hard work and dedication of our staff, Utah's child welfare system successfully exited Federal Court supervision following a 14-year-class action lawsuit.

On October 31, 2008, the Child Welfare Policy and Practice Group (the Court Monitor) issued its report of findings based on its assessment of the Department's and Child and Family Services' fidelity to the exit agreement. This report and its appendices are available below:

Administrative Practice Guidelines
Child and Family Services has drafted and adopted administrative practice guidelines that specifically incorporate our role in carrying out the collection and analysis of trend data, and in supporting the Case Process Review, Qualitative Case Review, and Quality Improvement Committees. Beginning on page 55, Sections 070.1, 070.2, and 070.3 address these requirements.

Workload Study
In an effort to assist managers in determining reasonable caseload sizes for caseworkers, Child and Family Services conducted a workload study during the time period February 1 through August 23, 2007. Part B - Supervisor/Staff Ratios was completed in October 2007.
Office of Services Review
The Office of Services Review conducts the Case Process Reviews and Qualitative Case Reviews in each region on an annual basis. You can find the latest Case Process Review and Qualitative Case Review reports on their website. Also available on the Office of Services Review website are reports from the Child Fatality Review and Office of Child Protection Ombudsman.
As part of our continuing improvement process, the Salt Lake Valley Region Program Improvement Plan, the Eastern Region Program Improvement Plan and the Western Region Program Improvement Plan address concerns found in the latest Qualitative Case Reviews.
